The office was quiet, almost too quiet, the kind of silence that made every small movement feel louder than it should. She stood in front of his coat, the one he always hung neatly on the same spot each time he arrived. Her eyes moved quickly around the room, restless, cautious. She needed to be sure no one was watching.
Her fingers trembled slightly as she reached into the pocket.

The moment her hand closed around it, her heartbeat quickened. This was the only chance she had.
“What are you doing?”
His voice came from behind her.
It struck like lightning.
She froze. Her glasses nearly slipped off her face, but she caught them just in time. Slowly, she turned, her eyes meeting his.
He was already walking toward her.
Step by step, calm yet intimidating, his gaze moving over her from head to toe before settling on his coat. Then back to her face.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice low, controlled, yet carrying an edge that made her chest tighten.
Her head dropped instantly.
He studied her for a moment, then spoke again.
“Are you trying to steal something?”
Her eyes widened in shock. She shook her head quickly.
“Then tell me,” he said, his tone firmer now, “what are you doing at my coat?”
Words failed her at first. Her mind raced, searching for something, anything.
“Am… I… I came to give you the report I prepared,” she stammered. “You were in the restroom, so I left it on your table. Then I noticed something on your coat, so I thought I should check it for you.”
Silence.
He watched her, carefully, as if weighing every word she had just said. Then he let out a soft scoff and turned away, walking back to his seat.
“Show it to me.”
Relief washed over her, but only for a second.
As he reached for his mouse, she quickly slipped the key into the pocket of her jacket, hiding it before stepping forward. She picked up the report, opened it, and began explaining, her voice steadier now, though her heart still pounded loudly in her chest.
He listened, or at least appeared to. His fingers moved on the mouse, clicking, scrolling, as she spoke.
When she finished, silence filled the space again.
Then he looked up at her.
“I’m listening.”
“That’s all,” she said quietly.
He held her gaze.
“Is that all you could come up with?”
She nodded slightly.
But the tension in the room had not disappeared.
If anything, it had only just begun.
Because what he did not say, what lingered behind his calm expression, was far more dangerous than any question.
