The house stands as an ordinary dwelling, comprising four rooms, a kitchen, and a toilet. The expansive courtyard boasts faultless tiles, providing a serene backdrop. Within this unassuming abode resides a girl, no older than 17 or 18, seated on the cool tiles of the courtyard. Despite the persistent mosquito bites, the evening's atmosphere seems to distract her from the discomfort, her mind consumed by the weight of missing someone and the troubles that burden her thoughts.

Suddenly, she senses something in her stomach, prompting her to rise. "Wash my hair for me; they'll wash it tomorrow," requests a young woman of about 21.

Mikewa, undeterred by the cold tiles, complies with the request, settling into her duties. "Ke FAHEEMAH, make sure you don't sleep when there is a fire and wipe them off," instructs the young woman with an air of shame and humiliation.

"Toh, Aunty Jameela," responds Faheemah in her composed voice.

Upon completing the task, Faheemah meticulously folds the clothes, ensuring they dry quickly, anticipating the return of electricity at midnight. She continues to sit for hours until her husband arrives, closing the studio. He instructs her to lift her head, noticing her tear-streaked face. She has been crying for three days, silently enduring her pain without revealing it to anyone, not even seeking medicine. His apparent concern brings forth more tears, a poignant reminder of her struggles.

Abbuh, on the other hand, is intrigued by her presence, pondering over who she is beside him. He contemplates whether he might recall something about her but dismisses the thought, heading to his room where Mami awaits him.

After the electricity returns, Faheemah takes down the clothes, not fully dry as anticipated. Undeterred, she uses an iron to expedite the process. She refrains from washing the clothes until they are handed to Aunty Jameela, aware that the latter tends to wear more clothes when someone she favors does the task. However, Faheemah's diligent work does not shield her from Jameela's disdain.

Following ablution, Faheemah reminisces about her mother, whose absence fills her eyes with tears. Lying on the cold floor, she refrains from sleeping, as per Jameela's directive to wait for them both to retire to bed. Despite closed eyes, sleep eludes her, the room enveloped in silence save for Jameela's laughter as she engages with her Infinix Hot8 phone. Faheemah closes her eyes, allowing memories of her past life to flood her thoughts.
